Samsung Galaxy S8: Specs, Features, reviews, and Price

Bixby is an Artificially intelligent Assistant launched as a software with S8 and this is not occurring by accident as there exist a dedicated button just below the volume key at the left side, this is like Apple’s siri or Google’s Assistant.

Bixby lets you know what you’re looking at, shops for you on a hit of a button and reminds you of scheduled notes and has a location trigger to buy a commodity at a certain spot.

This year’s Samsung S8 has come with different biometric unlockings, a fingerprint scanner is placed adjacent to the rear camera and a facial unlocking sensor is embedded to initiate an iris scan. Patently, these are top-notch security features and you won’t have to key in your PIN infinitely to unlock the phone.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S8: DESIGN
Samsung s8 is currently one of the most powerful smartphones due to its premium design. This is undoubtedly the most stunning feature of this device and obviously, It claims a larger percentage of the exorbitant cost. The smartphone boasts a 5.8-inch display, a tall display with a refined glass and metal body. This year’s Galaxy s8 and s8 plus have come with the edge, unlike the last year’s Samsung s7 Edge that proudly sports the Edge alone. Will this mark the beginning of S-series carrying the edge by default? well, time will tell when the premium brand releases its next flagship.

Aside from the fact that the edge makes the phone looks premium, It houses a host of quick links for your favorite contacts and apps for easy navigation.
With the absence of the home screen button, the display gets taller and thanks to the newer 18.5:9 format that has helped to immerse the gorgeous screen into the body to now have a smartphone that looks smaller than expected.

Both Galaxy S8 and S8 plus offer display at 2960 X 1440 pixels, translating to a pixel density of 570 PPI and 529 PPI respectively.
Looking around the phone, the power button is located on the right, the volume keys are positioned at the left of the phone and just below is the dedicated shortcut for Bixby.

The disappearance of the home screen button has triggered some changes in the design, amongst which is the relocation of the fingerprint scanner to the back, adjacent to the rear camera and is already generating comments, either satisfactory or otherwise, but I think the “bigger” fans are not smiling at this decision.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 CAMERA
Samsung Galaxy s-series is arguably a camera focused innovation at its best and over the years, the camera has been one of the best you can find on the market. Samsung S8 comes with a 12MP rear camera just like the Samsung s7 with an upgraded 8MP front camera sensor. The back camera with LED flash has a large dual pixel with f/1.7 aperture.

HARDWARE AND OS
Aside from the power button, volume keys, and the Bixby button mentioned earlier, Samsung S8 features the SIM card tray at the top, a USB Type-C port on the tail of the phone with a bottom-firing speaker and the headphone jack. The phone also shares the latest Bluetooth 5 with the premium phones, this offers connectivity with longer range and aid connectivity with two Bluetooth headphones and plays audio through both, all at the same time.

In terms of the processor, the smartphone either carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung’s Exynos 8895 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, the industry’s first 10nm processor to process data at a super speed and arguably the best on the global market now. The Snapdragon 835 is matched with the Adreno 540 GPU and the Exynos version has the Mali-G71 MPU GPU. With this processor, you need not worry about running your heavy games and apps and power consumption will be reduced by 25% or thereabout.

The Onboard memory offers a 64GB capacity and an expandable memory of up to 256GB to keep your movies, photographs, and other files.

Both S8 and S8 plus run Android 7.0 Nougat with Grace UX

SAMSUNG GALAXY S8: BATTERY
The phone is powered by a 3000mAh battery while S8 plus comes with a 3500mAh battery to complement the huge 6.2-inch display. On a normal usage, the battery is expected to last through a day with the processor and applying the necessary power saving tips according to TechRadar’s review. It has a fast charging feature to juice up the battery for uninterrupted use. It is also interesting to know that this smartphone can be charged wirelessly.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 PRICE AND AVAILABILITY (IN NIGERIA)
Samsung galaxy S8 is now available on the global market at a starting price of $750, making it patently an expensive phone. Samsung is compelling you to pay for that premium design and gorgeous display if using it is a must. In Nigeria, S8 is expected to hit the market as from 5th May 2017 of the launching in Lagos. The price is expected to have a range of #280,000 to #320,000 while Samsung s8 plus is expected to have a price range of #315,000 to #450,000.

BIXBY AND SAMSUNG DeX STATION
The Bixby will make your phone a nice companion. This is not the first time Samsung will include this kind of personal assistant. Though, It is hopeful that this will continue to be a huge improvement over the former “S Voice“. Bixby is an Artificially intelligent assistant akin to Siri and the reason hinges on the fact that they have the same developer.

Another interesting feature is the Samsung DeX. It features two ports of USB 2.0, HDMI port, and an inbuilt ethernet. The ports link your Samsung S8 to an HDTV or monitor and consequently use your phone as desktop PC. With this peripheral, you can access your phone content including the apps on a bigger display. You can purchase this peripheral via Samsung’s website.

In summary, Samsung galaxy S8 and S8 plus have been applauded by many as arguably the best phone on the market. The unique selling points include but not limited to; The superfast processor of 10nm that have been found fit to run even the heavy games and apps, the stunning design and innovative display with no physical home screen button. The camera is top-notch and reports have it that pictures come our originally and it works like magic even in low light. The unlocking patterns give users pleasure to use, albeit some are not comfortable with the new position of the fingerprint scanner.

However, while these great features are not only peculiar to the S8, It is quite expensive. It has also been reported that the iris scanner is not apt and there is no major improvement in the camera.

Finally, there is focus on the smartphone, even though the Note 7 mystery still lingers in the memory of many. This is actually a smartphone that has rewritten the story as regards phone design in the industry.
